Leeds United could field a refreshed XI at Nottingham Forest if a move for James Trafford is completed.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, they are close to agreeing a £40 million deal plus add-ons with Manchester City for the 23-year-old goalkeeper, a club-record fee that would make him the fourth-most expensive keeper of all time.

If signed in time, Trafford would go straight in as No.1 and could prove this summer’s most important addition. He would join Harry Wilson and Tarik Muharemovic among the new arrivals, addressing major gaps in Daniel Farke’s squad.

Joe Rodon anchors continuity through the spine after being virtually ever-present across Farke’s three years, with his recovery pace valuable.

Jaka Bijol has settled into a back three and looked better week on week, and could be a useful confidant for the latest defensive recruit after his own switch from Serie A to the Premier League.

Muharemovic is expected to replace Pascal Struijk, with hopes he may even upgrade the role, though Premier League adaptation remains a factor. Supporters will be eager to see the Bosnian’s debut.

At right wing-back, Jayden Bogle handled the Premier League with relative comfort last season, thriving in the role, and should dovetail with his new right-wing teammate.

Leeds begin their 2026/27 Premier League campaign at Forest on August 22, leaving fewer than four weeks for any remaining business and bedding-in.
