Leeds United can trade as the summer window opens today. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, most business may follow the World Cup, although swift moves cannot be ruled out. Four calls stand out on recruitment, retention, goalkeepers and exits.

Chairman Paraag Marathe has signalled fewer additions than last year's 10, prioritising higher calibre. With defensive foundations set in 2025, the focus shifts to attacking difference-makers.

Pascal Struijk is in the final year of his deal, leaving Leeds with a delicate choice. A sale could deliver major profit, yet replacing a left-footed, ball-playing centre-back would be costly and uncertain. A new contract could rival Ethan Ampadu’s.

Up front, Leeds still lack a right-wing or No.10 profile akin to Harry Wilson, a free agent. A near-£40m January offer for Jorgen Strand Larsen showed Farke wants another striker and Calvert-Lewin needs competition. Landing a big-money signing, the type associated with Igor Paixao or Rodrigo Muniz, would lift the attack.

Goalkeeper remains the least settled unit. Illan Meslier has gone, Alex Cairns and Karl Darlow are out of contract and in talks, with Darlow drawing interest, while £16m 2025 arrival Lucas Perri has underwhelmed. Leeds must decide on renewals, a new No.1 and Perri’s future.

A fourth-choice spot left by Meslier might remain vacant, though Scotland youth international Rory Mahady could be promoted. Marathe has also flagged sales, with fringe exits funding churn without weakening the XI. Joel Piroe, Willy Gnonto and returning loanees such as Joe Gelhardt could raise funds under tighter Squad Cost Rules.
