Noah Okafor has explained that a no-risk approach was taken to his Switzerland recall, with the Leeds United winger sitting out friendlies against Germany and Norway soon after a hamstring lay-off.

Recalled to replace Filip Ugrinić, the 25-year-old ended a 17-month absence from the national set-up but did not feature. The player said in a post that he and staff agreed not to take risks so soon after injury, and that he was grateful to be back involved.

His omission was described as precautionary as he continues his return, and he focused on supporting the squad in training.

Okafor only returned from a month-long absence for Leeds before the break, playing the final 22 minutes of the 0-0 draw at Brentford.

Leeds will hope his one-v-one threat can aid the relegation fight. He could also be involved in Sunday’s FA Cup quarter-final at West Ham.

During the break, Daniel James and Ethan Ampadu were initially rested then came on for Wales against Northern Ireland, Brenden Aaronson played 11 minutes for the USA against Portugal, and Ao Tanaka appeared off the bench for Japan against England.
