Leeds United have signed Bosnian defender Tarik Muharemovic for £34m on a five-year contract, their second addition of the summer after free agent Harry Wilson. The move reshapes the club’s likely strongest XI and bench.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the Bosnia and Herzegovina centre-back arrived from Serie A side Sassuolo and becomes United’s second most expensive signing, behind Georginio Rutter at £35.5m. He was unveiled on Friday afternoon, fresh from starring for his country at the World Cup.

Muharemovic fills the defensive void left by Pascal Struijk, who has joined Brighton in a £20m deal earlier this summer.

This week also brought a change in goal, with former first-choice Karl Darlow leaving for Manchester United on a free after his contract expired. He is the second keeper to depart this summer, following Illan Meslier, who also left at the end of his deal before joining Arsenal as a back-up.

Isaac Schmidt, who could have returned, instead completed a permanent move to Young Boys after last season’s loan at Werder Bremen. With Wilson and Muharemovic on board, Leeds’ projected first XI and bench now look different.
