Leeds United issued their retained list on Wednesday, confirming two exits and framing a refreshed view of the club’s strongest XI and bench.

As reported by yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, goalkeeper Illan Meslier will leave when his contract expires this summer, and Facundo Buonanotte returns to Brighton after his loan.

Talks are taking place with Karl Darlow, Sam Byram and Alex Cairns, whose deals also run out this summer. A significant summer awaits ahead of their second campaign back in the Premier League, which can prove more testing than the first.

Darlow, who is out of contract and reportedly on Manchester United’s radar as back-up, remains first choice for now after a strong second half of the season following his replacement of Lucas Perri.

Jayden Bogle is the clear pick at right-back, with James Justin offering cover across the back line.

Joe Rodon is a firm selection at centre-back. Jaka Bijol, a summer 2025 signing who impressed after the turn of the year, looks most at home in the middle of a back three.

Left-footed Pascal Struijk is another near-automatic pick in that three, and he is out of contract next summer.

At left-back, Gabi Gudmundsson is first choice, and the Swede is among four Leeds players set for the World Cup.
