Real Madrid have already been very busy this summer, with three signings already confirmed and another imminent. Bernardo Silva will soon join Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries and Marc Cucurella in joining Jose Mourinho’s squad, and there will be more to follow as the weeks go on.

As well as on-field changes, there will also be additions within the sporting department. One of those to arrive could be Luka Modric, who is reportedly preparing to retire as a player after his involvement at the 2026 World Cup with Croatia comes to an end.

Modric is said to have called time on his glittering career, which has led to him starting to think about life after playing. According to Croatia icon Davor Suker (via Marca), the legendary midfielder will move into a non-playing role in football, with his first job being at former club Real Madrid.

“Now they asked me where he is going to continue, either in Milan or in Madrid… I think something is going to happen with Real Madrid. I’m sure he’s going to go back, but I don’t know how… We’re going to wait for the World Cup to pass and see what happens. I’m sure he’s going to do something with Real Madrid, I assure you.”

If it turns out that Modric does return to the Real Madrid later in the summer in a non-playing role, he may not be the only one. Former teammate Toni Kroos has also been linked with taking up a similar role, which would represent a significant change in the backroom department at the Bernabeu.

It’ll be interesting to see whether Modric does return to Real Madrid in a non-playing capacity, although he will definitely be back at some point if he does retire, as he’s likely to receive some sort of ceremony as a club legend.
