As per South American journalist Cesar Luis Merlo via X, talks between Feyenoord and the Foxes over a deal for Carranza are now in the advanced stages, as head coach Marti Cifuentes looks to get some last-minute business done before the transfer deadline.

Leicester are in advanced talks with Dutch giants Feyenoord over the signing of Carranza. Whether it is a permanent deal or just a loan switch though remains to be seen at this stage.

The Argentine signed for Feyenoord just last summer from MLS side Philadelphia Union on a four-year deal, but has struggled to nail down a consistent spot in the starting 11 at De Kuip.

Carranza, 25, struggled to get ahead of Mexican striker Santiago Gimenez in the pecking order during the first part of the season, and even following Gimenez's departure to AC Milan in January, the Argentina then found himself behind Japanese striker Ayase Ueda at the club.

He played 30 matches across all competitions for Feyenoord last season. However, the vast majority of those appearances were ones from the bench, playing just over 1,000 minutes in total.

Carranza's goal record in MLS, in particular for Philadelphia Union, is what enticed Feyenoord to bring him to Europe in the first place, having scored 43 times and assisting a further 20 goals in 95 appearances across all competitions during his time in Pennsylvania.

Now, a move to Championship side Leicester is on the cards, with the Foxes preparing to make Carranza just their second signing of the window after 38-year-old backup goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.

Leicester City will hope Julian Carranza can fill the void left by Jamie Vardy

Following relegation from the Premier League, Leicester have undergone a turbulent time in terms of their squad having changed.

Club stalwarts Wilfried Ndidi, Danny Ward and, most notably, Jamie Vardy have all left the club after years of service at the King Power Stadium.

Mads Hermansen, Conor Coady, Daniel Iversen, Kasey McAteer and James Justin have also all left the club, leaving the Foxes squad thin heading into the final days of the window.

After exactly 500 games and 200 goals in Leicester colours, Vardy left the club this summer following the expiry of his contract, yet the Foxes have not replaced their record goalscorer yet, with Carranza potentially being that replacement.

Anyone who is tasked with replacing Vardy will have a huge, if not impossible, task on their hands, however manager Marti Cifuentes will be hoping that Carranza is the man to do it.
