Leicester City enter 'worst period' as Gary Rowett rejects common wisdom

Gary Rowett believes Leicester City are entering the worst time to work with his squad, with 11 players away on international duty and many likely to have only one day at Seagrave before Preston on Good Friday.

LeicesterMercury.co.uk reports that Rowett rejects the usual idea that international breaks offer valuable time on the training pitch, seeing this window as a challenge rather than an opportunity. City now have a fortnight before their next fixture.

City will be without the likes of Jordan James, Abdul Fatawu and Divine Mukasa over the next 10 days as players link up with their countries. The travelling group also includes Jordan Ayew, Patson Daka, Bobby De Cordova-Reid and Jeremy Monga, and many of their attacking options are away.

Rowett said the break presents two problems, working without key men and preparing for a Friday restart that leaves 24 hours fewer than usual. With several internationals due back on Thursday, many are likely to manage only one session before the Preston match.

He added that the remaining group will train well, with scope to refine one or two things and to boost fitness for those short of minutes. He also hopes a few injured players return to bolster options, and said he cannot complain.

Preston have slipped in recent weeks, although they ended a four-game losing run by beating Stoke 3-1 on Friday.
