Leicester City ended pre-season with a 1-0 defeat to Genoa, Lorenzo Colombo striking after the break. Russell Martin’s side suffered their first loss of the summer, compounded by a first-half injury to Ben Nelson.

According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, the centre-back hurt his right leg and hobbled off, with Jake Evans replacing him. Conor Chaplin, Will Alves and Alex McCarthy were also absent.

City began on top and created the better chances. New signing Liam Cullen was denied twice by Justin Bijlow, while Sammy Braybrooke forced a sharp save from close range.

After half-time Leicester lost control, their tempo dipping as Genoa enjoyed possession. Mid-way through the second period Ethan Meichtry threaded a pass for Colombo to finish past Jakub Stolarczyk, Luke Thomas unable to delay the attack.

In the ratings, Jayden Joseph was the standout performer and strengthened his case to start the new season. Braybrooke impressed again and simply must start against Notts County. Others, including Cullen and Bobby De Cordova-Reid, struggled to influence the game after the interval.
