Leicester City suffered a striker setback as target Dom Ballard joined Bristol City from Leyton Orient on a four-year deal. The Foxes must now look elsewhere up front.
According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, Leicester tracked the 21-year-old all summer after his 23 League One goals helped Orient stay up by three points, and, as it stands, Elijah Adebayo is not a player they have moved for, though that could change this window.
Ballard's haul earned the Golden Boot, Player of the Season and Young Player awards, and a Team of the Season place. Bristol had a bid rejected last month and speculation around City rose after Russell Martin said he wanted to bolster his frontline.
Ballard will link up with Lorent Tolaj, another League One striker previously on Leicester's radar. He was excited to join a big club, felt aligned with the manager and believed last season showed it was time to push on after three years in League One.
He also set his sights on becoming a Premier League player, adding that the club share that ambition.
Former Luton forward Adebayo, 27, has been on trial at Bristol City, playing in friendlies against Stockport County, Swindon Town, Newcastle United and Exeter City. After returning from an ACL injury in mid-March, he made two appearances last season and missed the club's open training session on Monday, leaving his future uncertain.
The trial remains open as needs are assessed, with the arrangement suiting both sides and praise for his character.
