Leila Pereira has questioned Flamengo and Fluminense’s joint control of the Maracanã, suggesting a conflict of interest over home-match arrangements as both play in the same competition. According to Coluna Do Fla, the Palmeiras president raised the issue while defending herself over links to Vasco.

Her comments followed questions from Luiz Eduardo Baptista, known as Bap, about an R$ 80 million Crefisa loan to Vasco, which used the club’s debt as collateral in a deal completed last year.

Pereira argued that two clubs partnering to run the stadium while competing against each other was problematic. She said both clubs had signed a letter to the CBF seeking date changes. She also pointed to a recent rescheduling of the Flamengo v Fluminense fixture and called it a conflict.

She distanced herself from suggestions she is buying Vasco, asking what a bank loan to the club has to do with her. Separately, Marcos Lamacchia, son of Crefisa owner José Roberto Lamacchia, who is married to Pereira, has been negotiating for months to acquire 90% of Vasco’s SAF for just over R$ two billion.

The Maracanã is owned by the Rio de Janeiro state government. Flamengo and Fluminense pay the state to use the venue, and Vasco and Botafogo can also seek approval to host matches there.
