After a tribute to coach Abel Ferreira at Nubank Parque, Palmeiras president Leila Pereira said on Friday the club remain interested in Danilo and that talks with Botafogo are ongoing, but there are no concrete updates. She added the player's preference could influence progress.
According to Nosso Palestra, Palmeiras are still trying to find a structure to make the deal viable, yet financial hurdles set by Botafogo persist. The current gap in valuation is said to be significant, with Palmeiras’ proposal roughly 30% below Botafogo’s asking figure.
Palmeiras explored including defender Naves in the package, but he has since joined Necaxa of Mexico, removing that option. Even before that move, Botafogo preferred a cash-only agreement.
Pereira said director Anderson Barros has been speaking almost daily with Botafogo and with Danilo’s representatives. She believes the player wants to return to Palmeiras, while stressing any move also depends on Botafogo.
Palmeiras do not plan to end discussions, and internally Danilo’s signing remains a priority for the rest of the season. Coach Abel Ferreira believes the midfielder’s arrival would be enough to close their business in this window, and that keeping the core of his starters will be vital in the title run-in.
