RC Lens winger Florian Thauvin (32) has earned a surprise recall for France. The 2018 World Cup winner has been called up to replace PSG winger Bradley Barcola. The Champions League winner had to pull out of Didier Deschamps’ camp this Monday after picking up a right thigh injury, according to the French FA. The Lyon Academy graduate reportedly sustained said injury during PSG’s 4-0 Champions League home win against Atalanta Bergamo. Barcola will therefore remain at PSG’s disposal during the October international break.

As for Thauvin, the 32-year-old is back in the France fold following a streak of remarkable performances with the Artois side, although Deschamps snubbed him in the first place. Thauvin was yet to feature for Les Bleus since a Euro 2020 qualifier against Andorra, in June 2019, during which he logged one goal and one assist. France will host Azerbaijan on Friday and play Iceland away on Monday, October 13, to get one step closer to qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.
