Leon Goretzka will have to wait for his Aston Villa debut, with the Germany international ruled out for several weeks by a knee injury. According to Goal.com, the 31-year-old will also miss Jurgen Klopp's first international window in charge of Germany.

The former Bayern Munich player joined on a free transfer late in August and confirmed on Monday evening that he faces a short spell out after his body reacted to an increased workload. He thanked Villa fans for their welcome and said he aims to return at full strength.

Goretzka will sit out the upcoming international break, which begins Klopp's tenure with Nations League fixtures against the Netherlands, Greece and Serbia.

The 73-cap international featured in three of Germany's four World Cup matches this summer before a round-of-32 exit to Paraguay.

Villa have started the Premier League season poorly, sitting 17th after one draw and two defeats. Unai Emery's side begin their Champions League campaign on Tuesday away to Club Brugge.

The setback arrives before he has played for Villa, though midfield cover is available. Potential replacements include Ross Barkley, Joao Gomes, Lamare Bogarde and Boubacar Kamara.
