According to Coluna Do Fla, Portuguese coach Leonardo Jardim arrived in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday night to sign for Flamengo, replacing Filipe Luís.

Jardim’s Cruzeiro faced Filipe Luís’s Flamengo twice in last year’s Brasileirão, winning once and drawing the other, leaving the Minas Gerais side unbeaten against the Rio club in 2025.

Jardim also contested the title for a spell, but Flamengo lifted the trophy while Cruzeiro finished third.

Cruzeiro tried to keep the coach, though he cited mental fatigue. Flamengo retained Filipe Luís into 2026, but 15 games were enough for the club to dismiss the former left-back.

With Jardim set to take over, Flamengo face Fluminense at Maracanã in the Campeonato Carioca final on Sunday 8 at 18:00 Brasília time.
