Leonardo Jardim has taken charge at Flamengo and stepped up preparations for Sunday’s Campeonato Carioca final against Fluminense. This follows the dismissal of Filipe Luís.
According to Coluna Do Fla, the Portuguese led his first session on Wednesday and will oversee a second at Ninho do Urubu on Thursday morning.
He will address the media after the workout, and has signed a contract running to December 2027.
Filipe Luís’s exit was tied to behind-the-scenes tensions rather than results alone. His relationship with club president Bap began to fray in December 2025 during a drawn-out renewal and disagreements over the squad’s early 2026 return.
With performances dipping, the situation became unsustainable. Bap wanted to dismiss him after the Recopa Sudamericana defeat to Lanús on Thursday, but the call was delayed as no replacement had been secured.
The report adds that Bap later learned Filipe Luís had held talks with Chelsea during renewal discussions, and that he was unreachable by the club for around three days.
Flamengo will have Jardim on the touchline at the Maracanã on Sunday, with kick-off at 18:00 Brasília time.
