Brazilian media report that Benfica are weighing a move for Flamengo winger Ryan Roberto, who is coached by Leonardo Jardim, as a medium to long-term investment.
The 18-year-old is regarded as one of the Rio club’s most promising prospects and has already featured for the first team under the former Sporting manager. Benfica face competition from Shakhtar Donetsk and Lille for his signature.
Figures are said to be on the table, with Shakhtar and Lille prepared to pay 10 million euros, while Benfica, whose president is Rui Costa, could raise the stakes to 15 million euros.
Benfica are assessing options after a season that fell short of expectations, and have also sounded out Oleksandr Zubkov, the Trabzonspor winger.
For Flamengo this season, Ryan Roberto has played 15 official matches, seven in the Brasileirão sub-20, five in the Taça Libertadores sub-20, two in the Carioca and one in the Taça do Rio. Across 923 minutes, he has scored six goals and provided two assists.
