Les Magic Fans celebrate 35th anniversary with citywide fireworks in Saint-Étienne | OneFootball

Fireworks that rang out across Saint-Étienne overnight from Sunday 19 to Monday 20 July were not a response to Spain’s World Cup triumph.

According to Le Progres, Les Magic Fans, one of ASSE’s emblematic supporter groups, chose the date to mark their 35th anniversary, a timing long referenced in a chant familiar to the North Stand at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.

The pyrotechnics began at midnight on the dot and lasted only a few minutes, lighting the night sky and rousing some residents who had already turned in.

Bursts were heard in several neighbourhoods and quickly prompted questions on social media as clips circulated.

The display had been prepared well in advance and passed without incident.
