Leverkusen summer signing Eichhorn out indefinitely after metabolic disorder diagnosis | OneFootball

Bayer Leverkusen said summer signing Kennet Eichhorn will be sidelined after being diagnosed with a metabolic disorder that requires specialised medical treatment, with no return date set.

The club added the condition followed excessive physical strain and weight loss, themselves the result of a gastrointestinal illness.

At last week’s public training session, Eichhorn worked individually on a separate pitch. Soon after, he was reported to have been withdrawn from first-team training as treatment began.

Sporting director Simon Rolfes said the club will support Eichhorn and that the priority is initiating the right steps for his recovery, giving him time and rest without pressure.

Eichhorn broke through at Hertha BSC last season, making 17 appearances in the 2. Bundesliga, before completing a €9 million move to Leverkusen on 1 July.
