Lewandowski congratulates Barcelona stars after Spain’s World Cup triumph: ‘Very happy for them’ | OneFootball

Ex-Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has congratulated his former teammates following Spain’s 2026 FIFA World Cup victory, saying he is delighted to see so many young players from the club achieve football’s biggest prize.

The Polish forward, who made his MLS debut for Chicago Fire on Wednesday, was asked about Spain’s triumph over Argentina and had warm words for the Barcelona contingent that lifted the trophy.

Lewandowski happy for his former teammates

Speaking after his first appearance for Chicago Fire, Lewandowski praised the eight Barcelona players who became world champions.

“Many of my teammates at Barcelona have won the World Cup, and I’m very happy for them,” he said, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.

The veteran striker highlighted how quickly the young players have progressed, saying:

“They’re very young players. Just a few weeks ago I was playing alongside them, and now I can see them as world champions. Congratulations to all of them.”

Eight World Cup winners from Barcelona

Eight Barcelona footballers were in the Spain squad that won the World Cup, starting with Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsi, Pedri, Ferran Torres, Dani Olmo, Gavi, Eric Garcia, and Joan Garcia

All were teammates of Lewandowski until the striker’s summer departure from Barcelona.

Cubarsi had a stellar tournament, even being crowned the Best Young Player, while it was Ferran Torres who scored the match-winning goal for Spain in the final against Argentina.

Dani Olmo, Lamine Yamal and Pedri were also integral to the team’s success, while Eric Garcia and Gavi only made brief appearances.

MLS Debut

As for Lewandowski, while celebrating the achievements of his former teammates, the veteran striker also began a new chapter in his own career.

Having seen his contract at Barcelona expire this summer, the attacker joined MLS outfit Chicago Fire as a free agent.

The Polish international made his first appearance for Chicago Fire on Wednesday, although his debut ended in a 3-2 defeat to Inter Miami.

Despite missing the World Cup himself, Lewandowski made it clear he was proud to see so many familiar faces from Barcelona reach the pinnacle of international football.
