Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski recently sat down with Mundo Deportivo and shared his thoughts on his future at the club, his ambitions, and even the challenge of finding his eventual replacement.

The Polish forward remains focused on delivering another strong season, while also addressing ongoing speculation about his long-term plans.

When asked about his desire to lift the Champions League trophy again, Lewandowski was clear. “Yes, it would be nice to win the Champions League again, of course,” he said.

The striker reflected on the team’s past performances, including a painful exit against Inter, where he felt Barcelona were the better side but missed key moments.

“In the end, we lost by conceding two goals too quickly, and then we scored three more, but it wasn’t enough to reach the final. I think we were better as a team, but something was missing.”

“If we’re lucky and avoid injuries in the big games, we can talk about our chances to win,” he added, staying grounded in the reality of football.

About his future

Lewandowski admitted that looking too far ahead is difficult. He is happy and fit, both physically and mentally, and focused on having a strong season.

But when asked about potentially moving to Saudi Arabia or the United States, he responded honestly:

“I have to say I have no idea right now. It’s a lot of things, I’m physically fine, I’m mentally fine. I can say what I want to do at the moment, but in football, we are talking about a year or more, and that’s a long time.

“For now, I’m thinking the most important thing is that I’m preparing for a very good season. I will see, but now is not the time.”

He also spoke candidly about the scrutiny over his age, saying people often overlook his performance on the pitch in favour of judging him by numbers. “I might play really well but not score, and the focus turns to my age,” he said.

Acknowledging the challenge of finding his successor

Lewandowski was asked if he would recommend someone to replace him once he leaves Barça. While he said it’s not his place to suggest names, he recognised that finding a good striker isn’t easy in today’s market.

“There aren’t many top strikers around,” he explained. “It’s hard to find someone who fits the team, the system, and the budget.”

When names like Erling Haaland or Viktor Gyokeres were mentioned, Lewandowski simply stated the obvious that such players are out of reach for financial reasons.

“I think the club has some players in another position as well, but in the end, you have to have a perfect solution for signing, but also for the club, or the coach, or the system in which you want to play.

In football, right now, finding a striker is not easy.”

Praising Flick

It must be noted that Lewandowski is someone who has already played under Hansi Flick before. Naturally, the Pole was asked about the German, considering that he was able to get the best out of this Barcelona squad.

“When Hansi arrived, I spoke to him and explained how I saw the situation at this club. What Flick did was ensure that every player was playing at his best.

“ It wasn’t easy for the coach, and I think Hansi spoke to all the players, and he knew that if we wanted to win titles, we needed players at their best.

“That’s why I think many players have played at their best this season, and I think that after this season, next season may be a little more difficult.

“But if you prepare mentally for these things, I’m sure we can play with a little more experience, and in the end, it will be a little easier. But of course, every opponent now wants to win against us, and we have to prepare for that,” he concluded.
