Newcastle United have been knocked out of the FA Cup following a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion in the fifth round of the competition.
Alexander Isak put the Magpies ahead from the penalty spot after Yankuba Minteh upended Tino Livramento in the box.
However, the former Newcastle player made amends for his mistake by slotting in the equaliser just before the break.
The hosts suffered a massive blow when Anthony Gordon received a straight red card for pushing Paul Van Hecke. But Tariq Lamptey was also dismissed in stoppage time for a second yellow following a challenge on Jacob Murphy.
However, Brighton edged the contest in the end as Danny Welbeck chipped home the winner in the 114th minute.
There were many discouraging performances from Newcastle yesterday, but Gordon, Harvey Barnes and Fabian Schar were particularly poor.
Lewis Miley had a chance to impress manager Eddie Howe for more first-team opportunities. However, the 18-year-old didn’t make a strong case for himself by producing a disappointing display.
He was excellent in the 4-3 win over Nottingham Forest last month, but wasn’t as influential against Brighton last night.
Miley had just 26 touches during the 56 minutes he was on the pitch. He failed to register any crosses or key passes, and lost 100% of his duels.
The central midfielder lost the ball on five occasions and completed 17 of his 22 passes (77% accuracy). He was dribbled past once but made a clearance.
