The LFP board has approved the postponement of Lens v PSG and Brest v Strasbourg, both to be played on Wednesday 13 May. According to L'Équipe, the decision was taken unanimously on Thursday morning.
Lens v PSG had been scheduled for 11 April, between PSG’s Champions League quarter-finals against Liverpool on 8 and 14 April. Strasbourg have likewise secured a delay to their 12 April trip to Brest, which fell between their Europa Conference League quarter-finals with Mainz on 9 and 16 April.
The LFP has proposed bringing forward Lens v Nantes, from matchday 33, to Friday 8 May if PSG reach the Champions League semi-finals.
Lens oppose the rescheduling, yet the board is empowered by article 22 of the league’s statutes to set the overall calendar and alter fixtures during the season. When asked, its stance is to accommodate teams before European games.
The request from PSG has fuelled a row around a top-of-the-table meeting between first and second, separated by one point, with Paris holding a game in hand. Lens president Joseph Oughourlian argued the move lacked fairness between Ligue 1 clubs, while admitting he had few illusions about the outcome. He can appeal to the CNOSF conciliators if he wishes to continue the fight.
