Liam crowned New York City Spelling Bee champion in Sunderland shirt | OneFootball

Trans-Atlantic Sunderland fan Liam Kwon has been crowned New York City Spelling Bee champion, a clip of his winning moment going viral.

According to Sunderland Echo, he represented P.S. 032 The State Street School in the citywide contest for primary pupils.

Footage shows him, in the current Sunderland home shirt, spelling ‘Dvorak’ to seal the title. He then celebrates on stage in red and white stripes bearing number 5 and Ballard, before receiving his trophy.

Afterwards, Liam said it felt unbelievable, adding this was his first Spelling Bee and that the win meant a great deal to him.

Sunderland AFC later posted congratulations with a love heart emoji after New York City Public Schools shared the video. The school system also hailed Liam from P.S. 32 in Queens and praised the dozens of students who took part across two days of competition.

He will now wear his Sunderland shirt at the National Championship in Washington DC.
