Liam Rosenior points towards a lack of Pedro Neto in yesterday’s defeat to Newcastle United as a difference maker.
Maybe Neto could have helped them get a couple of goals back, maybe not. But Rosenior believes that the Blues winger could have made all the difference in their 1-0 home defeat to Toon yesterday.

Chelsea were all over Newcastle in the second half trying to find a goal or two, but it didn’t happen and Newcastle dug in for all three points. Chelsea huffed and puffed but they couldn’t get through a stubborn back line with pretty much all of their players behind the ball for the entire half.
But you cannot blame Eddie Howe and Newcastle for that. They got their goal, they got the lead, and they decided to protect it and hold on for all three points. It was risky for them, but it paid off, and Chelsea were poor.

Neto was banned because he pushed a ball boy in the PSG game in the week, so he couldn’t take part in the game. And in comments picked up on X last night, Rosenior says Neto was missed:
“We knew there would be a hearing. It cost us Pedro on the pitch today who could have made a huge difference.”
Who knows if Neto would have made any difference at all or not, but it sounds like Rosenior sees him as a very important player.
Rosenior also summed up Chelsea’s issues after yet another defeat on the pitch by saying they could be contained in two main “aspects.”
In a situation that has caused a lot of drama and debate, the manager also got side-tracked talking about the ridiculous pre-match huddle situation.
