Libra’s 15 clubs met at Gávea, Flamengo’s headquarters, for their first assembly since last year’s rift over broadcast money. According to Globo.com, the session doubled as a thaw with Flamengo and a tentative step towards a single league.
Flamengo president Luiz Eduardo Baptista and Bahia CEO Raul Aguirre were chosen as the clubs’ new representatives, with Harry Massis of São Paulo and Odorico Roman of Grêmio named as alternates.
The meeting was framed as a reopening of dialogue with a fresh proposal on the dispute. Proceedings were adjourned to resume later. Many executives travel to Asunción on Thursday for Conmebol draws.
Relations had soured late last year when Flamengo went to court and club chief Bap criticised Palmeiras president Leila Pereira’s leadership of the bloc. Libra hit back, labelling his comments uncontrolled and negligent.
Flamengo secured an injunction in Rio to freeze R$ 77 million from TV rights receipts due to the group. That order was partly overturned, and only R$ 1.6 million remains held, an amount that would be due to Flamengo.
At the heart of the dispute is Libra’s 2025 split, set at 40% equal share, 30% performance and 30% audience. Flamengo argues the audience formula is incomplete and requires unanimous approval, and contests platform treatment between free-to-air, pay TV and pay-per-view.
Talks this year mapped six ways to regulate the audience metric, without agreement. Wednesday’s assembly debated a path to break the stalemate, amid signs of understanding with clubs of the FFU and with the CBF.
