‘Life and football are cruel’ – Barcelona midfielder shares powerful statement after successful surgery | OneFootball

Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez has sent a reassuring message after undergoing surgery on the fractured fifth metatarsal in his right foot.

The Barcelona midfielder suffered the injury during the club’s La Liga clash against Real Betis in what became a devastating turning point both personally and professionally. 

What initially looked like a painful setback has now officially ruled the young Spaniard out for several months and ended his hopes of representing Spain at the FIFA World Cup.

Fermin shares a strong message

Despite the difficult circumstances, Fermin tried to remain positive and focused on recovery after successfully undergoing surgery.

Sharing his feelings with supporters, the Barcelona midfielder wrote, “The operation has gone very well, and I’m already thinking about getting stronger physically and mentally.”

The young midfielder then opened up emotionally about how difficult the situation has been for him mentally after seeing one of the biggest moments of his career disappear so suddenly.

“Life and football are cruel when you least expect it or deserve it, but you have to accept that everything is part of the path.”

The Barcelona star also made it clear that he intends to return stronger from the setback despite the frustration surrounding the timing of the injury.

“It is a very hard time for me and another challenge in my career that I will overcome, have no doubt.”

The World Cup heartbreak

One of the biggest disappointments for the midfielder is undoubtedly the World Cup itself.

The Spain international had already done enough to secure his place in Luis de la Fuente’s final squad after becoming a regular part of the national team setup in recent months. 

Now, however, the injury changes everything, as Fermin is expected to spend close to three months recovering following surgery, forcing him to miss what would have been the first major international tournament of his career.

Even so, the Barcelona midfielder still showed full support for his national teammates despite the heartbreak.

“Now it’s time to support the National Team and my teammates from home. Heartfelt thanks to everyone for the support and displays of affection,” he concluded.
