Manchester United are looking to sign Morten Hjulmand from Sporting CP.
A report via A Bola claims that the player could be available for a fee of around €40-50 million. Even though he has an €80 million release clause, the Portuguese outfit is prepared to sanction his departure for a reasonable fee.
It will be interesting to see if Manchester United can win the race for his signature. They will also face competition from Arsenal, Manchester City and Juventus.
The report claims that Manchester United is currently in pole position to sign the Denmark International. The 26-year-old will add physicality and defensive cover in the middle of the park for the Premier League side.
Casemiro has decided to leave Manchester United in the summer, and they need to replace him properly. They will need an upgrade on Manuel Ugarte as well. Hjulmand has shown his quality in Portugal, and he has the physicality to succeed in English football as well. He could prove to be an excellent addition for Manchester United.
Meanwhile, it is no surprise that Arsenal are keeping tabs on him. They could use more depth in the middle of the park as well. The Denmark International would be an upgrade on Christian Norgaard.
Furthermore, the 26-year-old is a lifelong Arsenal fan, and they might feel that they could have an edge in the transfer race. It will be interesting to see if they are truly keen on the player. They have the resources to afford him, but they have yet to present an official proposal.
Hjulmand is at the peak of his career, and this is the right time for him to join a bigger club. Arsenal or Manchester United could be an exciting destination for him.
