Atlético Madrid celebrated a narrow 2-1 victory over local rivals Real Madrid on the second match-day of the Liga F season. Atleti are one of just two teams with a 100 percent record so far, along with reigning champions Barcelona, who dismantled Athletic Club on Sunday.
Let us take you through the latest action and results from Spain’s top division.
Real Madrid were fortunate to draw with DUX Logroño on the opening day of the season, so they had plenty to work on in Friday’s derby Liga F clash against Atlético Madrid. Unfortunately for new Real Madrid manager Pau Quesada, it proved to be another difficult outing. Lauren Leal headed the hosts into an early lead, before Signe Bruun was sent off for two bookable offences in the 60th minute.
Despite being left a player light, Real Madrid managed to pull level thanks to Sara Däbritz’s long-range free-kick. However, the midfielder’s first Real Madrid goal was not enough to clinch a point, as Luany netted an 83rd-minute winner to snatch the spoils for the home side. Atlético boast a perfect record, while Las Blancas have just a solitary Liga F point to their name.
Meanwhile, Barcelona netted eight goals for the second week in a row in their dominant win over Athletic Club at San Mamés. Vicky López opened the scoring, before Patri Guijarro produced a long-range effort from just inside the opposition half. Ewa Pajor quickly got in on the act with a brace to take Barcelona’s tally to four before the break.
After the interval, the technology was used to confirm Kika Nazareth had squeezed the ball over the line, before Maite Zubieta got Athletic on the scoresheet with a shot from distance. However, Barcelona showed little mercy as they netted three more times to complete the rout. Aitana Bonmatí scored either side of López’s second goal to ensure three players finished the game with braces.
Badalona dispatched Granada via a 2-0 scoreline to clinch their first Liga F win of the season. Estefanía Banini squeezed the ball past Chika Hirao to break the deadlock at Nuevo Los Cármenes. Lice Chamorro made sure of the win in the second period. The Paraguay international raced onto Loretta Kullashi’s through ball, before she slotted her right-foot shot into the bottom corner.
Meanwhile, Espanyol and Deportivo La Coruña had to settle for a point apiece in Saturday’s encounter. Ona Baradad broke the deadlock in the closing stages of the first half to send Espanyol into the break in high spirits. However, their mood was dampened just past the hour mark when Bárbara Latorre restored parity. Neither side was able to find a winner, ensuring they had to be content with a 1-1 draw.
A Mônica penalty proved enough to secure Madrid CFF maximum points in their meeting with Eibar. The hosts were awarded the spot-kick for a pull in the box following a video review. Mônica drove the ball past the outstretched Eunate Astralaga to condemn Eibar to a narrow 1-0 loss.
Elsewhere, newly-promoted Alhama were involved in a goalless away draw with Levante. The visitors had the chance to find the breakthrough when they were awarded a 61st-minute penalty.
Real Sociedad also looked set to play out a goalless affair in their away clash with DUX Logroño until they were awarded a 99th-minute penalty. Lorena Valderas’ clumsy challenge on Lucía Pardo allowed Nerea Eizagirre to roll home the winning goal.
Barcelona’s Guijarro produced an effort similar to Isina’s stunning strike on matchday one. Guijarro collected the ball just inside the Athletic half, and noticed Adriana Nanclares off her line as she turned towards goal. The Spain international then sent her ambitious strike looping over the goalkeeper and into the awaiting net to open her account for the season.
