Sheffield United appear to be on the verge of appointing Ruben Selles as their new head coach following Chris Wilder's expected departure.
According to FLW's Hull City fan pundit Cameron, the Blades could be making a smart long-term play if they are willing to be patient.
As per The Telegraph, Selles is now in advanced negotiations to take over at Bramall Lane after Wilder's sacking was internally decided by American owners COH Sports.
Selles, most recently in charge of Hull, has emerged as the front-runner to lead the Blades into the 2025/26 campaign.
FLW Hull Fan Pundit Cameron shared his take on the move: "I can't lie, I was very shocked when I saw the rumour circulating on social media. I think Selles definitely has what it takes to be successful if he is given time and the right tools, which I believe Sheffield United are able to provide."
The Spaniard’s record at Reading was promising, especially considering the points deduction he faced, and he did steady the ship at Hull before an unexpected dismissal.
Cameron said: "I think, given a full pre-season and a transfer window, he could create a young, energetic and exciting side. But his experience at the top end is limited. He’s mostly been fighting relegation at Hull and Southampton. We’re yet to see him challenged for titles or promotion."
Despite doubts, the belief is there that Selles has the tools to succeed, especially with the resources that Sheffield United could offer him.
"I think there’s a good manager there," Cameron added. "A bit like Liam Rosenior, he might need that next opportunity to really show what he’s capable of. Hopefully for him, he gets the job. If he does, I’m sure it’ll be one of the most well-paid in the league - so good luck to him."
Sheffield United are still expected to formally announce Chris Wilder’s exit before confirming their next appointment. Should Selles be that man, the next chapter in his coaching journey could be his biggest yet.
