Ligue 1 continues this weekend and tomorrow night sees one of the biggest games of the season take place. Two strong Ligue 1 sides battling it out for Champions League football and both have one thing in common: stopping PSG from winning a clean sweep of Ligue 1 titles. Lille take on AS Monaco and this is everything you need to know.

Bruno Genesio confirmed in his press conference on Friday that Edon Zhegrova resumed training this week for Lille and he is in contention to be part of their matchday squad. Marius Broholm has recovered from a minor sprain, whilst Tiago Santos has also resumed training, but the latter will not be part of the squad.
“Edon returned to training with us this week. He was a little tired yesterday [Thursday], which is normal. He needs to get back into the rhythm. He might be part of the group on Sunday. Marius Broholm has recovered from his minor injury. Tiago Santos has returned, albeit a little late, which is very good news. He won’t be here this weekend.”
Adi Hütter confirmed in his press conference that AS Monaco will be without Ansu Fati once again for the trip to Lille, but the Spaniard is making good progress.
“He won’t be in the squad this weekend, but he’s on the right track, and we’re happy with that. He’s now fully integrated into the squad and into daily training. We’ll see after the international break about a place in the squad. For the past three or four years, he’s always been injured at the start of the season. We want to protect him and get him in the best shape.
We all know this is one of the best fixtures in the French football calendar. Both produce top talents, both play fantastic football and both strive to be the best they can be. But how does the Head to Head record look between the sides?
Both sides have met in Ligue 1 twenty-five times since 2010/11. AS Monaco lead the Head to Head having won 10 times against Lille since 2010/11, scoring 36 goals. However, they haven’t beaten Lille away from home since 2021/22, a 2-1 win on the 6th of May 2022.
This fixture in Ligue 1 has seen 8 draws since 2010/11, including five goalless draws.
Lille have beaten their opponents just seven times since 2010/11 and they have won just twice in the last five meetings in Ligue 1 (2D 1L). They’ve scored 26 goals against AS Monaco, which include a 4-1 victory on 10th April 2016.
Hákon Anar Haraldsson is one of the standout players for Lille, especially since they no longer have the likes of Jonathan David or Angel Gomes. He had a key role to play in his side’s 3-3 draw away from home on the opening day against Stade Brestois, scoring a lovely goal where he tucked it home into the near post. As the attacking midfielder, his technical ability and movement into pockets of space will make him one to watch.
For AS Monaco, there are a few you could pick out but the one who could stand out for them is Lamine Camara. He is a superb technician with the ball at his feet, moves it with a lovely rhythm and tempo, and also doesn’t complicate anything at all. His key attribute is controlling games through simplicity. If Lille fail to stop him getting plenty of touches of the ball, Camara can easily run this game.
Lille (4-2-3-1): Özer, Aissa Mandi, Nathan Ngoy, Alexsandro, Perraud, Benjamin André, Ngal Ayel Mukau, Marius Broholm, Hákon Anar Haraldsson, Felix Correia, Olivier Giroud
AS Monaco (4-2-3-1): Hrádecký, Teze, Dier, Mawissa, Caio Henrique, Camara, Zakaria, Akliouche, Minamino, Golovin, Biereth
Lille 2-2 AS Monaco
I can see an exciting game tomorrow night where it’ll come down to moments of class and brilliance. High intensity, fast tempo and direct play from both sides – it’ll come down to which key player can take this game by the scruff of the neck and get something for their respective sides.
