According to a report from La Voix du Nord, Lille OSC were considering bringing Mitchel Bakker (25) back to the club following last season’s loan from Atalanta BC, as they look to replenish their depleted left-back rotation.
Bakker made 35 appearances for Les Dogues across all competitions, including eight in the club’s run to the Last 16 of the UEFA Champions League. Bakker also contributed four goals and three assists. The full-back had also demonstrated flexibility, with Bruno Génésio using him at times to cover at right wing for the absence of Edon Zhegrova.
However, it’s unlikely that Lille will return for the Dutch international, as he picked up a significant injury during pre-season training with the Italian side on Thursday. Bakker reportedly has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament. He will be undergoing surgery today, and this will be followed by a lengthy rehabilitation period. A situation which has likely ended Lille’s pursuit of a player who had impressed.
