Lionel Messi’s time with Barcelona came to an end in the most heartbreaking fashion possible, and one can never forget how the media went from assuring his renewal to breaking news of his departure overnight.

The club legend, needless to say, did not deserve to leave the club of his dreams in such a heart-shattering manner, and it is clear that he holds it against Barcelona president Joan Laporta to date, especially given the president’s ‘promise’ that he would be renewed.

Yet, Messi has never ruled out a return to the club in a different capacity. While he is still enjoying football in the MLS and possibly even preparing for the FIFA World Cup with Argentina, Que T’hi Jugues bring out a surprising development.

Messi to be involved in Barcelona president elections?

As relayed by the outlet, Messi may be involved in Barcelona’s presidential elections in a surprising turn of events in what comes as a massive development from the club’s administrative perspective.

The Argentine talisman is not ruling out the possibility of making an explicit gesture in the run-up to Barcelona’s presidential elections next year, although he still has a few doubts before taking a definitive stance.

Unsurprisingly, Messi was not contacted by Joan Laporta or his close circle, given the friction between them in recent years. Instead, he was contacted by others within the club who see him to be a fitting character.

A few months ago, Laporta announced his intention to run for president once again in the upcoming election as he looks to add another term to his tenure.

He announced that his board had saved the club from financial distress and that his project deserved to go on.

For Messi to participate in the election in any role, needless to say, could well revolutionise the process, although it remains to be seen which candidate he endorses or in what capacity he participates.
