Lionel Messi on Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba’s Inter Miami farewell | OneFootball

On the eve of the MLS Cup final, Lionel Messi reflected on the imminent retirements of Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets, and the chance to send them off with silverware.

"I think [it would be] something very positive and nice for them to remember, to retire with one more joy to add to the great careers they've had, to all the titles they've won." He was speaking to Inter Miami's communications team.

"To add one more and retire on a high note and say goodbye to the United States with a title. It would be very special."

Messi’s arrival was announced on 15 July 2023. Busquets and Alba followed, with deals completed on 16 and 20 July respectively.

The trio transformed Inter Miami, breaking records and winning two trophies.

Alba and Busquets made over 100 appearances and are both in the club’s all-time top five for assists.

Messi also discussed facing Thomas Müller again and the growth of football in the United States.

Now they have a final chance to lift the biggest prize, a last ride for the former Barcelona trio.
