Lionel Scaloni becomes fifth manager to reach consecutive World Cup finals | OneFootball

Lionel Scaloni will contest a second successive World Cup final after Argentina beat England 2-1 in Wednesday night’s semi-final.

The Albiceleste were crowned in 2022, and the Argentina head coach now becomes only the fifth manager to reach consecutive finals.

According to L'Équipe, the previous four were Didier Deschamps, Franz Beckenbauer, Carlos Bilardo and Vittorio Pozzo, and Pozzo remains the only coach to win both finals.

More broadly, Scaloni, 48, appointed in 2018, will be the seventh manager to appear in two World Cup finals.

The others to have reached two finals without doing so consecutively are Helmut Schön, in 1966 and 1974 with West Germany, and Mario Zagallo, in 1970 and 1998 with Brazil.
