It's been trying times for Premier League champions Liverpool in 2025/26, as Arne Slot's Reds have looked well and truly out of the title race.
Despite splashing considerable financial resources in the summer that saw Anfield welcome the likes of Alexander Isak, Milos Kerkez, and Jeremie Frimpong to Merseyside, the holders came into the weekend sitting 11 points off table-toppers Arsenal.

But after the Gunners stumbled against bugbear Aston Villa, Liverpool look to have jumped at the chance to re-ignite their league form as they bagged a quick-fire second-half brace at Elland Road thanks to another summer addition, Hugo Ekitike.
The 23-year-old Frenchman, who started brightly for his new club after arriving from Eintracht Frankfurt, reverted to type along with his club colleagues, scoring just once in his previous 12 outings until today.
Ekitike is now also the first Liverpool player to score more than once in any game across all competitions this campaign.
His two-goal effort (his first for Liverpool) after the break could be a sign that rediscovering his own form in front of goal could be a key catalyst for Slot's troops to get back on track.
