Liverpool have agreed a brilliant deal to replace a cult hero.

Federico Chiesa will always have a special place in the hearts of Liverpool supporters, and it’s easy to see why. Even if his time at the club hasn’t been defined by long spells as a starter, his impact has been felt in some of the biggest moments.

Time and again, Chiesa has come off the bench and delivered exactly what Liverpool needed. Whether it’s a crucial goal, a burst of energy in a tight game, or just that spark to change the momentum, he has a knack for stepping up when it matters most.

Those aren’t always the moments that grab headlines week in, week out, but they’re the ones fans remember when they look back on a season.

Part of what makes him such a cult hero is his attitude. He’s never complained about his role, never caused noise, and has always gone about his work with a quiet professionalism that teammates and supporters both appreciate. In a squad full of stars, that kind of mentality goes a long way.

Then there’s the connection with the fans. His song has quickly become one of the loudest and most infectious at Anfield. It’s the kind of chant that lifts the stadium every time it starts, and it’s helped turn him into a crowd favourite almost instantly.

Chiesa might not always have been a guaranteed starter, but he doesn’t need to be. He’s the definition of a perfect impact player and, more than that, a player who understands his role and embraces it fully.

For Liverpool fans, that’s exactly what makes him a cult hero.

However, even with a change in managers, Chiesa's time at Anfield definitely seems to be coming to an end. He was never fancied by Arne Slot and Andoni Iraola's style of play is probably not going to suit him either.

Iraola wants quick players who work hard off the ball. Chiesa is unfortunately not in that category anymore. Injuries have ravaged his body.

So, Liverpool are going to have to sell him. It's going to be an emotional farewell, and one that nobody wants to see happen. However, for the sake of Chiesa's career and for the sake of opening up a non-homegrown spot in the squad, it just makes sense to part ways with the Italian.

Thankfully, Liverpool already have a replacement lined-up in what will be a brilliant deal.

Victor Munoz. Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Liverpool have triggered his release clause and verbally agreed a move to bring the Spaniard to Anfield.

Munoz looks like a really interesting fit for Liverpool because he ticks a lot of boxes for what the squad needs right now. At 22, he’s still young, he cost around €40 million, and he feels like the kind of signing who can grow into a bigger role rather than being thrown straight in as an automatic starter.

He’s not arriving with pressure to carry the team, but he still offers plenty. The idea is someone who can rotate in, come off the bench regularly, and also step in when needed to start games without a big drop in quality.

Like Chiesa, he’s the sort of player who can feel a bit underrated in the wider market, but makes a real difference when he’s on the pitch. His biggest strengths are his pace and directness, especially in one-v-one situations - something Liverpool were definitely missing at times last season.

What makes him particularly useful is how he can change the rhythm of a game late on. Coming on against tired defenders, when space starts to open up, he gives Liverpool a different kind of threat and makes them a lot harder to defend against.

It’s that unpredictability and energy off the bench that could make him such a valuable addition. This is simply a brilliant move. Edwards has done it again.
