Veteran defender is into the final weeks of his stint at Anfield

Andy Robertson hailed Rio Ngumoha as an ‘unbelievable’ talent after he scored Liverpool’s first goal in a 2-0 defeat of Fulham.

The win sees Liverpool move back into the Premier League top five in a huge boost to their chances of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

"He's unbelievable,” the 32-year-old Scot told Sky Sports.

“It just shows you sometimes don't listen to the experienced players, I was screaming at him to say that I'm coming on the overlap, then he just goes and cuts inside. It's a great finish, great performance by him.

“He just keeps learning and listening, he's such a good kid. Him and Trey [Nyoni] are a pleasure to work with and they listen to all the lads.

“You can just see them improving all the time. He's got a big future ahead of him, but here and now is pretty good as well.”

The goal was Ngumoha’s second in the Premier League this season, but his first at Anfield.

"It's a special goal,” the youngster declared. “Robbo [Andy Robertson] made the overlap, created space for me so I just cut inside and aimed for the corner.

"Liverpool for me are the biggest club in the world, to start so young and the manager and all the players having belief in me. I've just got to keep working hard."

The occasion was an emotional one for Robertson as he played his first match at Anfield since announcing that he would leave Liverpool come the end of the season.

He added that he is looking forward to making the most of his final weeks with the club.

"I knew my song would get sung a couple of times. This club means everything to me. It's a fact.

“I've been here nine years. I was a boy at one time. Now I've become a man here. This club's made me into who I am now, I owe them a lot.

“I'm just going to try and enjoy and embrace every minute I'm at this football club. When I get a start I just try and enjoy it.”
