In a recent post on X, journalist Florian Plettenberg revealed that Liverpool are facing stiff competition for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi. It has been mentioned that the Reds would have to rival Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in the race to sign the English centre-back on a free transfer next summer.
Guehi has made a solid start to this campaign as he has put in a handful of impressive displays for the Eagles on the defensive end of the field. The 25-year-old has featured in 12 matches for the London outfit this season, scoring one goal and grabbing one assist in multiple competitions.
The English talent has been a solid presence when defending inside his half after he made 15 tackles, eight interceptions and 36 clearances in the Premier League. He has also been accurate when distributing possession from the back, based on his pass completion rate of 85.8% in the English top flight (stats via fbref.com).
Guehi’s current deal at Selhurst Park will run out at the end of this campaign. Hence, Liverpool could potentially land him on a free transfer next summer.

Guehi is a solid tackler of the ball and can scan the danger well to earn possession back for his team inside his half. He usually clears his lines when required and can even play his way out from the back.
The English sensation has proven himself to be a consistent performer in the Premier League. Hence, it is a no-brainer for the Reds to try and sign him on a free transfer next summer after failing to land him on transfer deadline day.
Guehi would add more quality and depth to Liverpool head coach Arne Slot’s backline. He is good enough to serve as an ideal partner to Virgil Van Dijk at the Merseyside club. Furthermore, Guehi could prove to be a decent replacement for Ibrahima Konate, who is in the final year of his Liverpool contract.
At 25, Guehi has his peak years ahead of him. The Crystal Palace skipper would be well worth the fight, so Slot should focus on stepping up his efforts to sign him in 2026.
