Liverpool Are In The Running To Land This Crystal Palace Defender: Should Slot Snap Him Up? | OneFootball

In a recent segment on Youtube, respected journalist Fabrizio Romano mentioned that Liverpool are in the running to land Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi. Romano said,

“Guehi is a player who’s been linked with basically all the big clubs in Europe. All the big clubs have called to understand the situation of the centre-back at Crystal Palace.

“As of today, there is still nothing advanced with any club for January. The feeling of those close to Guehi is that the most likely outcome is a move in the summer on a free transfer, staying at Crystal Palace until the end of the season and then joining his favourite club in the summer.

“There is Liverpool in the race. There is Bayern in the race. There are more English clubs, including Man City, also calling. Barcelona and Real Madrid made some calls to understand the situation at the end of October, beginning of November, and we will see if they decide to enter the race officially or not.

“There are many clubs interested in the player, but at the moment, the most likely outcome is a summer move.”

Guehi’s Impressive Form In English Football

Guehi has enjoyed a decent run of form at the London club this season and has done well to put in a series of impressive displays for them on the defensive end of the field. The 25-year-old has registered two goals and earned four assists in 27 matches for Crystal Palace in this campaign so far across all competitions.

The English talent has been a dominant presence inside his half as he is averaging 27 tackles, ten blocks, 18 interceptions and 85 clearances in the Premier League. He has even been accurate when distributing possession from the back after completing 84.6% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via fbref.com).

Should Liverpool Boss Arne Slot Snap Guehi Up Next Year?

Guehi is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his side inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and can even play his way out from the back.

At 25, Guehi has his best years ahead of him. He would no doubt enhance the quality of Liverpool boss Arne Slot’s defence.

Guehi would also serve as a decent replacement for Ibrahima Konate, who is currently on an expiring contract at the Merseyside club. With all things considered, Slot would be wise to snap him up this January or next summer.
