Liverpool were forced into late change at City Ground when Wirtz pulled up in warm-up
Arne Slot has confirmed Florian Wirtz suffered an injury in the warm-up before Liverpool’s 1-0 win against Nottingham Forest.
Wirtz was named in the Liverpool starting XI at the City Ground but pulled up in the warm-up and had to be replaced in the team by Curtis Jones.
The Germany international was seen shaking his head in discussion with Liverpool coaching staff before he went down the tunnel.
Wirtz later reappeared to watch the game from behind the Liverpool dugout.
Issuing an update on Wirtz after the game, Slot told Sky Sports: "We tried it in the warm-up and he wasn't able to play. The good thing is there is a week to go until the next game."
The Dutchman was asked whether his side had been relying upon their summer signing in the lead-up to their clash with Forest.
"I hope it's more than that because if we rely on one player then things are not good,” Slot continued.
“And that's also not the situation. We've missed players throughout the whole season. It was another miss for us. He's in really good form.
"Someone else has to do the job, and Forest have good players. I said before the game I was surprised about their league position."
The Reds stole victory at the City Ground after Alexis Mac Allister’s late winner, in a result that Jamie Carragher labelled as one “one of the biggest robberies” he had seen in the top flight this term.
The victory moves Liverpool level on points with Chelsea and Manchester United in the chase for a Champions League place.
