Standard Sport understands that the Rennes centre-back is due in England on Monday after being given permission to complete his move to the Premier League champions.

Liverpool are expected to pay an initial £55million for Jacquet, with a potential further £5m in add-ons.

He will remain at Rennes for the remainder of the current Ligue 1 season, before heading to Anfield in the summer.

The 20-year-old also attracted interest from Chelsea, with the Blues holding talks over a deal as they assessed their centre-back options.

Jacquet is now, though, set to join Liverpool and could replace Ibrahima Konate, with his fellow Frenchman’s future still uncertain as he enters the final months of his contract.

Liverpool have been in the market for a centre-back since missing out on Marc Guehi following an 11th-hour U-turn from Crystal Palace on Deadline Day last summer.

Guehi had been due to undergo a medical at Liverpool after a £35m fee was agreed, but stayed at Palace before subsequently completing a £20m move to Manchester City last month.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have moved on from Jacquet, with Mamadou Sarr expected in London on Monday to finalise his return.

The Senegalese defender joined Chelsea last summer for £12m before being loaned back to sister club Strasbourg, where he was expected to remain until the end of the season.

Chelsea have now decided to bring forward Sarr's first-team integration at Stamford Bridge, with Aaron Anselmino heading to Strasbourg on loan in his place.

Blues striker David Datro Fofana is also expected to head to Strasbourg on loan following an injury to future Chelsea signing Emmanuel Emegha.

Meanwhile, Liverpool midfielder James McConnell is set to stay at the club until the summer after his loan at Ajax was cut short due to injury.
