Liverpool have taken the first formal steps towards signing Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi, with Sky Sports reporting that the England international is keen on a move to Anfield.
“Liverpool believe Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi wants to join them,” Sky Sports’ Vinny O’Connor revealed. This belief has prompted the Reds to open talks with Palace, although their approach is measured and respectful of existing relationships.

Palace value Guehi at £40m, a figure that reflects both his current form and his potential as a long-term defensive option. Liverpool will only seek to agree personal terms with the 24-year-old if a deal can first be reached between the clubs. The Anfield hierarchy are keen to avoid unsettling the player without the framework of an agreement in place.
The negotiations are underpinned by a long-standing relationship between Liverpool’s leadership and Palace chairman Steve Parish. Both clubs are determined to keep discussions professional and constructive. For Liverpool, the deal is about more than immediate gain. It is also about building for the future with a player who has already shown the ability to perform at the highest level.
Since joining Crystal Palace from Chelsea in 2021, Guehi has developed into one of the Premier League’s most reliable centre-backs. His composure on the ball, positional awareness, and leadership qualities have made him a standout figure in Patrick Vieira’s and now Oliver Glasner’s sides.
At Liverpool, Guehi could be seen as both competition and eventual successor to key defensive figures. His ability to operate in a high defensive line, coupled with the pace and strength to deal with counter-attacks, aligns well with Arne Slot’s tactical demands. The England international’s international experience adds further assurance that he could step seamlessly into high-pressure situations at Anfield.

Liverpool’s move for Guehi is part of a wider defensive refresh aimed at ensuring depth and quality for a side competing on multiple fronts. With the demands of the Premier League, Champions League, and domestic cup competitions, having a dependable and versatile defender is essential.
The Reds’ measured approach also reflects their desire to conduct business in line with the club’s values. Negotiating in the right way, rather than rushing to secure personal terms before a club agreement, helps maintain strong relationships within the Premier League ecosystem.
For Liverpool, the pursuit of Marc Guehi makes perfect sense. The Reds have been at their best in recent years when they have had a reliable, athletic, and tactically astute defensive unit. Guehi ticks all of those boxes.
At just 24, he has the prime years of his career ahead of him and is already experienced at both club and international level. Supporters would see him not just as cover, but as a potential long-term starter who could form a formidable partnership alongside Virgil van Dijk in the short term, and perhaps Ibrahima Konaté in the future.
The reported £40m valuation will be debated among fans, but given the inflated market for Premier League-proven players, it represents a realistic figure for a player of Guehi’s quality and potential.
If Liverpool can secure the deal without unnecessary complications, it would strengthen an already competitive squad and send a message that the club is looking to defend their title with authority. Guehi’s potential arrival would be welcomed by fans who understand that success is built from a solid foundation at the back.
