Liverpool kick off 2026 with a crucial clash against Leeds United. With Chelsea, Manchester United and Aston Villa all dropping points earlier this week, a win would be huge for Liverpool’s battle for Champions League qualification.
Both teams come into this one in good form. Liverpool are on a seven game unbeaten run and won all of their last four games against Inter Milan, Brighton, Tottenham Hotspur and Wolves.
Leeds United are unbeaten in their last five games with wins against Crystal Palace and Chelsea and sharing the points with Brentford, Sunderland and in the return fixture against the Reds.
If the 3-3 draw at Elland Road a few weeks ago is anything to go off, we could be in for a cracker of a New Year’s Day fixture.

Liverpool are set to be without a number of first-team players for this one. At the back, Giovanni Leoni remains sidelined with an ACL injury suffered on his debut back in September. Joe Gomez is also absent with a muscle injury he picked up in the 2-0 win over Brighton a few weeks ago.
In midfield, Wataru Endo is still sidelined with an ankle injury but is expected to return in the next couple of weeks. There is a boost in midfield though, with Dominik Szoboszlai returning from suspension in time for this one.
In terms of attacking options, Mohamed Salah is still away with Egpyt at AFCON and is absent. Record signing Alexander Isak will also miss this one after suffering a fractured leg in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Spurs.
Liverpool Confirmed XI: Alisson, Bradley, Konate, Van Dijk (C), Robertson, Gravenberch, Jones, Szoboszlai, Frimpong, Wirtz, Ekitike
Bench: Mamardashvili, Lucky, Ramsay, Kerkez, Mac Allister, Nyoni, Ngumoha, Chiesa, Gakpo.
