Liverpool have an opportunity to sign a lightning winger. The Reds have been contacted about a transfer.
Liverpool will be in the market for a winger this summer. They don't really have a choice there - the team desperately lacks pace going forward.
Signing an out-and-out striker is unlikely after last summer's investment, leaving the wing the obvious one. Exactly how much Liverpool have to spend on such a player isn't clear but there are certainly opportunities.
One such option is Anthony Gordon, with Florian Plettenberg claiming the Reds have been made aware about a potential transfer. Newcastle United need to sell before buying and it seems the Scouser will be top of their list for sales.
Liverpool have a long-standing interest in Gordon, having tried to sign him in 2024. Now they've got a golden chance and it's one that would absolutely solve their pace problem.
Gordon, after all, was the fastest winger in the UEFA Champions League group phase. There are very, very few elite forwards who can match him for pace, meaning he can bring something significant to Liverpool's attack next season.
€90m is a lot of money but it does feel as though he might be the final piece of the puzzle in some regards. One that also ticks the homegrown box and he's a boyhood Red.
Gordon looks certain to move somewhere this summer. No matter where he goes, it'll be one of the biggest transfers of the window - and it may well be to Liverpool.
Newcastle Performance and Stats
As of 8 May 2026, Anthony Gordon remains a central figure for Newcastle United, despite a challenging league campaign for the club. The 25-year-old winger has recorded 18 goals across all competitions this season, including 10 during an impressive Champions League run. In the Premier League, he has contributed six goals and two assists over 26 appearances (1,814 minutes), maintaining an average FotMob rating of 6.96. Gordon was an unused substitute in Newcastle’s 3–1 win over Brighton on 2 May, having recently returned from a hip injury.
Transfer Speculation
Gordon is heavily linked with a move away from St James' Park this summer. Bayern Munich have reportedly opened formal talks and presented a "concrete" five-year contract offer. Arsenal also hold strong interest, while Liverpool—who previously moved for him in 2024—continue to monitor the situation. Newcastle reportedly value the England international at over £75 million.
International Standing
A regular in the England setup, Gordon has earned 11 caps. He is widely expected to be included in Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the 2026 World Cup this June.
