Liverpool could line up DREAM swap deal for Darwin Nunez

There's a dream swap deal scenario for Darwin Nunez and Liverpool on the cards this summer.

It's very obvious that the no.9 has his future away from Anfield. The Uruguayan forward has struggled a lot last season and it seems impossible to imagine that he will be at the club come the start of the season.

Nunez is not a part of Arne Slot's plans. That was made abundantly clear towards the end of the season when Nunez struggled to start for the Reds, and sometimes even Luis Diaz started ahead of him in the no.9 role.

For years now, Liverpool fans have been hoping Nunez's fortunes would change but after three seasons and no improvement - merely inconsistent performances, it's the best for all parties if they went their separate ways.

Of course Liverpool will want to strike the best possible deal for Nunez. He's still in the prime of his career and highly rated forward, for whom the Reds will demand the right fee.

At this stage he doesn't have an obvious destination but Liverpool do have the potential here to pull off an amazing deal that could work for everyone involved and bring in a surprise forward to Anfield.

One of the clubs who has been linked with Nunez is AC Milan, the Italian side were even reported to be considering a bid for the Uruguayan earlier this year.

Recently, reporter Nicolò Schira claimed that Nunez's preference would be to stay in Europe so a move to Milan could be the perfect destination for the Liverpool forward.

It's also an opportunity for Hughes to line-up a potential swap deal with the Italian side.

That's because Anfield Watch understands Liverpool see Rafael Leao as a potential option this summer if Luis Diaz leaves the club, which is a possibility.

Leao would be an ideal addition. The Portuguese international is almost a like-for-like replacement for Diaz, especially because he can also play as a forward.

During his academy career, he often played in that position, which may come as a surprise to people.

"The best position for me at the time, was as a striker. His mobility needed work to learn the strategic and tactical side of the game. Because he has a very easy final touch, he needed to play centrally, as a striker," his former coach Luis Martins explained to First Time Finish.

"Rafael's big strong point is the ability to accelerate with the ball. Which depends upon the body's balance to create rotations, stop, shift and manipulate the ball."

These strong points based on Martins' description could utilise Leao into being the perfect forward for Liverpool as well.

So, if Milan want Nunez, this is a golden opportunity for Hughes to bring in Leao and secure a dream swap deal for the Reds.

Leao would be a two-in-one player, he could replace both Diaz and Nunez in single signing. For Nunez it's a dream move to Milan where he could continue playing his football in Europe at a huge club.

Hughes has strong connections in Italy, having played there and he speaks fluent Italian which makes this deal all the more possible.

And it's why there is a chance the Liverpool sporting director could line this up perfectly. It's definitely one to keep a close eye on.
