Former Liverpool and England captain Steven Gerrard has no doubts Arsenal will bounce back from their Champions League disappointment against PSG.

The Gunners were beaten on penalties in last night’s final in Budapest, ending their hopes of an historic league and European cup double.

Gerrard, who won the Champions League with Liverpool back in 2005, has backed Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta to push on again next season in the hope of securing the club’s first major European trophy.

“I look across this Arsenal team, this Arsenal squad, I don’t see much ego,” Gerrard spoke post match.

“I see a lot of professional players who have been fantastic now for a period of time.

“I see a young, hungry manager that has done incredible things with this group of players.

“You can’t let this setback take anything away from becoming Premier League champions. I tried to do that for 15 years with good teams and good players for Liverpool and it’s immensely tough.

“Arsenal have done it 10 days ago so they deserve a lot of plaudits, they deserve a lot of credit. 

“You’ve got to feel for them, it’s cruel, but if you are going to lose a final you lose it in that way, where you run into the ground for each other and you give it everything you’ve possibly got. They lost it on penalties, it’s a shame.”
