At the moment, Alexis Mac Allister's future is completely up in the air.

The Argentinian hasn't been offered a new deal by Liverpool despite both Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai both being handed new deals this season.

The midfielder has even come out and said that he was "very sad" that Liverpool hadn't offered him a new contract.

Many rumours emerged about why this may not have happened yet but, recently, reports have suggested that Liverpool didn't think his performances from the 2025-26 season justified handing him an extension.

This has obviously led to a lot of discussion among the Reds' fanbase but, even though Mac Allister is now playing fairly well, Andoni Iraola and the rest of Liverpool's hierarchy seem to have already made their decision on his future.

If you'd have told Liverpool fans a couple of years ago that they'd be looking for a Mac Allister replacement, you'd have probably been laughed out of the room.

The Argentinian was one of the first names on Jurgen Klopp's team sheet and, in their 2024-25 Premier League winning-season, he was one of their most important players.

However, for one reason or another, last term, the attacker failed to meet expectations with fans even demanding that he was sold during the January transfer window.

This obviously didn't happen but, now that Liverpool have almost sorted out their defence and attack, they can finally start upgrading their midfield.

Many players have been linked with a switch over the summer but now, thanks to an update from journalist Ekrem Konur, it seems like the Reds already have an idea of who they want to replace the 27-year-old.

"Liverpool view Máximo Perrone as one of four candidates to replace Alexis Mac Allister," he wrote.

"Status → Seen as potential successor for club & Argentina NT.

"Interest → Napoli, Juventus & Inter also monitoring."

Liverpool need to start preparing their midfield for the future

Liverpool's defence and attack now looks fairly solid.

Obviously, with contracts expiring over the next couple of years, that stance could change once again but, for now, it feels like FSG have done a fairly solid job with their recent improvements.

However, one area that has been constantly skipped over is their midfield.

Indeed, a huge chunk of change was spent on it in the past but, recently, even with excellent market opportunities like Lamine Camara and Mamadou Sangare being available this summer, the Reds chose against bringing any new midfielders in.

So, the fact that Como's Perrone is being eyed by Liverpool makes a lot of sense.

Not only is he Argentinian but he's also only 23 years old and has already played 136 games of football throughout his career.

The fact that he's also a natural number six means that he's quite literally the perfect player for Liverpool.

A fee for the South American sensation hasn't been shared yet but, with how important he is to Como, he's likely to cost a pretty penny.
