New Man United head coach Ruben Amorim might want to bring the likes of Geovany Quenda with him to Old Trafford, but he could face a battle to land the youngster with Liverpool and Man City reported to be interested in his services.
The 17-year-old, who has a €100m release clause according to TeamTalk, has also caught the eye of Arsenal and Chelsea recently.
Even before it was confirmed that Amorim would take over from Erik ten Hag at the Theatre of Dreams, United were linked to Quenda, with a suggestion that he could become one of the stars of world football.
Thirteen goals and 10 assists in 49 career games (transfermarkt) is slightly misleading, given that his appearances in the Sporting first-team in the big competitions (Champions League, Europa League, Liga Portugal) have seen the right winger bag just one goal and one assist.

That said, it’s clear that the Premier League’s big clubs see something in the youngster that they feel they can work with.
The issue at present would appear to be the amount of the release clause, which appears excessive to say the least, even when taking into account Quenda’s potential projection.
TeamTalk sources suggest that City are ‘very interested’ in pursuing the youngster, though Amorim’s arrival at United has to put them in the box seat for his current player’s signature, albeit there has been no word whatsoever from Sporting as to whether any of their players will be available from next summer.
Clearly, the thought of helping to restore the Red Devils to the top table of domestic and European football is one that persuaded Amorim, and he’ll be banking on selling that to any of his Sporting players should he decide that they are able to help him in future.
What his hire also does is keep the current United squad very much on their toes.
