The brass at Premier League giants Liverpool are eyeing a summer deal for a leading member of the defensive ranks at Bayer Leverkusen.

That’s according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, who has on Saturday provided an insight into the situation.

It is of course common knowledge at this point that Liverpool are on the lookout for reinforcements at right-back with a view to next season.

This comes with Trent Alexander-Arnold having made the call to depart Anfield on a free transfer, ahead of penning terms with La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid.

The Englishman will link up with Xabi Alonso at the Santiago Bernabéu this summer, expected to flourish in the latter’s all-out attacking system.

And as alluded to above, it is one of those to have helped Alonso make his name as a top tactician in Germany who just so happens to be Liverpool’s no.1 target to replace Alexander-Arnold.

As per a report from Fabrizio Romano:

‘Liverpool are well informed on Jeremie Frimpong situation and how the installments are defined for his €35/40m release clause. He remains one of the main names on the shortlist to replace Trent with Frimpong expected to be eventually keen on the move.’
